Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

Your Treatment:
Before a treatment, your Massage Therapist will propose a personalized treatment plan based on an initial assessment and health history. The assessment consists of various tests to determine the condition of your muscles and joints. Any personal and health information you provide to your Massage Therapist is completely confidential and will be safeguarded. Your health record cannot be released or transferred without your written consent.

Your Massage Therapist must also obtain your consent to work on any part of your body, regardless of whether you are fully clothed, or fully or partially covered with sheets or blankets. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time.

Various specialized movements of the hands, over the skin or clothes, make up the Massage Therapy treatment. The Massage Therapist will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become uncomfortable.

Massage therapy is not covered by OHIP, but many private insurance companies cover treatment from a Massage Therapist as part of their extended healthcare plans. Please consult your policy.

Welcome to Holistic Physiotherapy with Nami!

Your body has been on a journey. The symptoms you are experiencing are your body’s way of communicating to you. Perhaps it still carries some tension from a previous injury or accident. Perhaps it feels imbalanced from years of sitting at your desk or from repetitive movements at work or home. Perhaps there are trapped traumas or emotions held in the body as tension. Whatever you are experiencing, your body is talking and we are here to listen!

Using a holistic approach, Nami considers the whole person; body, mind and soul and all the experiences you have been through. Though you may be experiencing symptoms in one area of the body, the entire body is connected and moves together as a whole. It is important to assess and treat the whole body for any symptom no matter its location. What you think and believe about your body, symptoms and healing possibilities matter too. Nami also investigates and treats the root of any symptom. Treating the root clears the system holistically and can quicken healing and get you the results you seek sooner. All of this is considered and incorporated into every treatment to suit each individual and their specific needs.

After your individualized assessment, a variety of hands-on techniques and tools (such as acupuncture or cupping) may be used during your session. Fascial Maneuvers (Human Garage Fascial Maneuvers) are incorporated into every treatment session. Fascia is connective tissue that holds and surrounds your muscles, bones, blood vessels, nerves, and organs. It is covered in nerves and holds intelligence, memories, traumas, emotions and tension. Releasing the fascia allows the entire body to feel lighter, move into better alignment, move more freely, improve your posture, reduce symptoms and allows for you to feel more comfortable and at home in your body.

Nami is a huge advocate of helping every person she works with feel empowered and confident in managing their body and symptoms. She encourages everyone to do something positive and helpful for their body on a regular basis, and provides specific instructions on how you can do this! It would be an honor and a pleasure to work with you on your healing journey to feeling balanced, strong, energized, and symptom free in your body.

Physiotherapy treatments are offered in-person or virtually (offered through the Jane App which is a HIPAA and PIPEDA-compliant telehealth option. The link will be sent to you upon booking and you will need a computer, laptop, or android device with Chrome. Virtual care allows you to receive treatments for the relief of any symptoms, exercises and guidance in the convenience of your own home).

For any physiotherapy questions, or if you don’t see a day/time that works for you, please contact Nami at namiosakabe@gmail.com
